Everyone’s heard this saying at some point in their lives “Cleanliness is next to Godliness.”
Well, it all begins with creating order in
your life. I know exactly what you’re saying right now, “Easier said than done”.
Well, it actually is that simple.
Begin with your Bedroom
Getting your life in order starts with small
steps and you should begin with your bedroom. Go through every single drawer
and remove all the things you find in each drawer. I know this sounds daunting
so please relax. Take your time. No rush. Set a goal to get through one drawer
per weekend. Now that’s not a bad deal at all.
Organize the stuff you find in each drawer
into 3 stacks. The first stack should be of all the things you want to throw
out. Keep a dustbin close by. Tossing these unwanted things directly into the dustbin is so much easier.
The second stack should be of all the
things you still need and use. These can be cleaned, if need be, and neatly stored
back into your cupboard or drawer for that matter. Depending on the nature of
the item e.g. clothing, these can be neatly folded and packed in the drawer.
The third stack should be of all the things
you no longer use. These items e.g. clothing that’s still in good
condition can be donated to an orphanage, child welfare organization, or old age
home depending on the items you have to give away. You may also have stuff in
this stack that can be sold for a fraction of the price you bought it at. It
would be great to earn some extra bucks on these.
Getting Organized
Once you’ve done with your cupboards, do a
thorough clean-up of your entire room and again small areas at a time until the
entire room is neat and tidy. You will soon be the proud occupant of a well-organized room and you will no longer waste unnecessary time looking for your belongings.
Now that you’re satisfied with the condition
of your room, you can take a further step and arrange your work clothes separately
from your gym gear, weekend wear, sleepwear, etc. Your work wear should be
washed and ironed and make sure you have 5 sets of work wear readily available
for the work week ahead. If you have a 6-day working week then you should have
6 outfits readily available for use.
Saving Time & Space
This saves you hoodless of time during the week. It practically slashes your “get ready for work time” in
half. How often do you stare at your cupboard full of clothes but say you don’t
have anything to wear? So to prevent this tragedy every single morning of your
life, for the rest of your life, take a few minutes each weekend to arrange at
least 5 work outfits.
The next item you should pay attention to is
your shoes. If your shoes don’t fit anymore, stop hogging them. Give it to
someone that can make good use of it, instead of it being shelved in your
cupboard occupying useful space. You should rather make space for the stuff
that still works for you. Things you look great in or give you that feel-good
emotion.
Once you’ve decided on the pairs of shoes
that you are going to keep, clean these shoes thoroughly and have them stored away
neatly. There’s nothing like a clean pair of shoes to make a lasting impression
on someone. Remember people always notice your shoes.
The Big Clean-Up
The above method of order can be applied to
all the rooms in your house. You should then move to the living area, other
rooms, kitchen, garage, and finally the outside of your home.
Slowly, bit by bit, square by square apply the
same principle of getting rid of garbage, donating stuff that you no longer
need and neatly storing away what you still need.
This will create so much space around you
and enhance the ambiance of your entire house. During the week, life gets busy
and there’s not much time to clean. You’d be surprised that this process of
decluttering makes a huge difference in your day-to-day life. You are now on
top of your game; you become well organized and soon this orderliness will
spread to all the other areas of your life.
The Clutter Gets Going
It will be the beginning of a NEW YOU and this
will give you a sense of pride in yourself creating the work-life space, you so
much required. Having order around you also settles your mind and gets you to
this orderly place in your thoughts and you’ll find that you process
information much more easily once the clutter is gone.
Love you lots…
