As per today’s statistics, the sales profession is among one of the most sought-after jobs in the whole world. Our entire lives revolve around this transaction called Sales. Sales set the globe in motion. It is sales that drive productivity and demand which is the life and breath of any business, small, big, or side hassle. The key to the success of any business is ongoing sales; of your service, product, or whatever it is that you’re selling.
Do Something Different
To stand out from the rest you need to do something different to ensure that your customers keep coming back for more. One thing I’m most certain of is that each and every customer wants to be treated like a king. There should be no underestimation of this statement. Treat each of your customers like they are your ONLY customer. Do everything in your power within reason of course to delight your customer. Rest assured, you will have a loyal customer for the rest of your life.
Maintain a Healthy Relationship
Develop a healthy and professional relationship with your customers. Sometimes befriending them on a personal level may become a little tricky and at times this line between friendship and professionalism may become blurred, hence it’s best to be cordial while maintaining professionalism. Any business based on a platonic relationship is just as unpredictable as a human’s emotions. So I would tread carefully when this situation becomes a reality. Sometimes it cannot be avoided as a close friend may want to use your products or services and this is fine, provided you don’t get emotionally bogged down. The other scenario is when someone awards you business and then you go out of your way to befriend this person. In this case, if the friendship between you and your customer ends, you could be putting your business at serious risk.
Be Yourself
As a successful salesperson, you really don’t need to suck up or pretend to be anyone or anything that you’re not. Be yourself and ensure your dealings are fair and honest, always keeping your customer’s best interests at heart. Although it’s tempting to make a quick buck, refrain from luring your customers into unfair deals where you or your business could be jeopardized.
Know Your Product
Promote deals that benefit you and your customers. Know your product or service better than anyone. Be the best at presenting your product and your company. Present the value-adding facts about your services or products. Invest a small percentage of your profits back into building your customers' business. This is an excellent idea as it will secure your future business.
Invest in the Future of Your Business
A customer will never turn away a supplier that invests in the betterment of his business. Your profit sharing can be used strategically to enhance the customer’s business, e.g. subsidizing the training of their staff. The more successful your customer becomes, the more successful you become. It’s a beautiful financial ripple effect, provided you maintain a strong, reliable relationship. Other examples of adding value could be ways of saving your customer money or time, assisting them in becoming more environmentally friendly, or leasing equipment that they normally would have to purchase. This takes the load off them but at the same time you’ve earned the security of your business. You’ve sealed the deal.
Staying Connected
Keep in touch regularly with your customers so you are the first to know when they are experiencing problems. This is your time to demonstrate your support to your customer. The problems they are experiencing could have nothing to do with your product or service but this is the time a customer needs support and if you can be of any support to them they will never forget your assistance. Don’t ever walk away thinking that it’s not your problem. Customers don’t remember you when things go right but they will always remember those who helped them when things went wrong.
Keep Your Feet Firmly on the Ground
The sales field, I have to admit is not for the faint-hearted and sometimes you would need to grow nerves of steel. On the positive side, it is one of the most gratifying jobs a person can have, filled with purpose and the ability to contribute in ways unimaginable. You can be the pinnacle for creating employment for thousands of people by just being successful with acquiring many new lucrative customers. That is the power a salesperson holds. So you are the engine of the company you work in/own business. You drive sales which, drives demand and keeps the factory running like a well-oiled machine. It provides employment and puts food on many a table.
The Star in a Sales Person
A salesperson never gives up. Call after call, rejection after rejection, he keeps knocking on doors until he seals the deal. A good salesperson should never be undervalued. The company that loses this individual will definitely suffer a great loss. Salespeople should be treated like an organization’s most prized possession. They should be given the rightful appreciation and recognition for the job they do. They steer the business and have the ability to take it to great heights. Whether they manage an already acquired account or whether they’re responsible for bringing in new accounts, these people should be revered.
Love you Lots….
